Dr. Peggy Hibbert

About the Speaker:

Kim Hughes, M.Ed.and SLA  is a 30+ year veteran of education with a Master’s degrees in both Elementary Education and School Leadership/Administration. She excels in providing engaging, informative events for parents, educators and administrators of children, infant through elementary age.

A former North Carolina State Teacher of the Year, Kim has worked as both as an administrator and a teacher of children birth through fifth grade. She discovered the power of Conscious Discipline while serving as an early childhood educator in an inclusive mental health setting. It soon became her passion to share its empowering message with as many children, parents and educators as possible.

In 2011 she began Conscious Connections, an educational firm that helps teachers, school administrators, child care providers, and parents harness positive discipline techniques and cutting-edge early childhood research to create rewarding relationships and positive learning environments for children from birth to fifth grade. She currently serves as a Master Conscious Discipline® Certified Instructor and has been personally trained by its founder, Dr. Becky Bailey.

Kim’s inviting, playful style creates memorable trainings, while her experience with Conscious Discipline is top-notch. Kim has supported school- wide implementation in both early childcare and elementary settings, mentored administrators, conducted both large and small group trainings and worked directly with teachers of children infant through elementary age. Kim has also worked with both of the PBS  series Sesame Street and Danger Ranger as a curriculum developer and educational specialist and currently consults for Teaching Strategies, Inc.

She lives in Wake Forest with her husband, Scott, and their 2 dogs, Stella and Katie.

Our inaugural Enlightenment Speaker Series event features speaker Kim Hughes on the topic of  "Connections that Count: Forming Loving Bonds with our Children".  Connection starts in the heart, empowering us to build meaningful relationships with others. These loving bonds strengthen as both the adult and the child reclaim safety, joy, helpfulness and caring as the foundation for future success. Walk away with renewed excitement for how to help yourself and children build connections that lead to more cooperation in your classroom, in your home, and in your life.Material is suitable for educators, parents, and anyone interested in building meaningful relationships with others.

The Peggy Hibbert Enlightenment Speaker Series is a series of educational events created in honor of Dr. Peggy Hibbert.  Peggy Hibbert was devoted to the mission of supporting families with young children.  Her passion for early education and early intervention is reflected in her many years of involvement at Project Enlightenment as a parent, a doctoral student intern, and eventually as the staff coordinator of the Demonstration Preschool. Her vision and willingness to step forward as the first volunteer President led to the creation of the Project Enlightenment Foundation.  She helped establish the first Board of Directors for the Foundation and set forth the goals and mission of the Foundation.  Donations made in her memory help us continue her mission of education through the Peggy Hibbert Enlightenment Speaker Series.
